The Mask
Since choosing to only use one boy in the music video we have chosen to use a mask to show the fantasy side of the video. We believe this makes our video more abstract as the whole song is about her reality relationship and her fantasy relationship so we think this makes it very clear to the audience. At the end of the video the guy is seen taking the mask off but his face is not revealed. We thought this was a cute way to end our video as it shows the merge between her reality and her fantasy.
Location, Props And Actors Table
For the 'Normal Dress' We will discuss with Paris, Ryan and Josh before filming scenes what they should wear, obviously as the main part of the video is all set on the same day (argument and leaving him) The same costume will be needed. Then we will choose distinctive other costumes/colours to show the difference. In the fantasy scenes we will try to match the costumes as best we can to the romantic movie scenes.
Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Evaluation - Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
After gathering the results from the audience feedback questionnaire, we found many positive responses to our music video. However, we also found out some things that our audience didn't like and what we could improve on.
Firstly, a large percentage of the audience who watched our music video commented on how well the lip syncing and acting worked together. In particular, there are several questionnaires said the acting was very believable and 'emotional'.
Secondly, many people who viewed the music video recognised the 'Love Actually' intertextual reference. Also, those who hadn't seen the film before commented on how effective it was in fitting in with the general feel of the video. When asked what the common running themes were throughout the video, many mentioned themes of 'love', 'fairytale', 'relationships', 'dreams', 'fantasy' and 'heartbreak'.
Most of the audience commented on the strong relationship between the imagery and the lyrics. In particular, the confetti scene where it transitioned into a heart to match the lyrics, 'If stars don't align'. Regarding the effects, many commented on the transitions which they felt were effect to emphasising the themes and the acting.
When we asked the audience about the mask, there were varied responses and misunderstanding. One person said that the mask could represent that love is blind, which wasn't our main thought and aim for the mask but we definitely thought it could fit well with our music video.
If we had to improve our music video in anyway, we would choose a wider variety of shots. Some of our audience said they would preferred to see less outdoor shots. One person felt there was too much going in the music video. Taking this onboard, we could've simplified the story line to make it easier to follow. Another person also said they didn't think the theme of a fairytale was not very clear throughout the video.
In conclusion, the general response of our music video was very positive and in the end, our intertextual references were very effective. However, we could've simplified the storyline to make it easier to follow and could've incorporate more varied shots than predominantly outdoor ones.
